Living at Whitley

The community at Whitley includes people of diverse backgrounds and interests. Although the majority of our residents study at the University of Melbourne, we also have places available for students at other Universities including RMIT. The College also has a Theological School with over 250 students, most of whom are non-residential.

Bedrooms at Whitley College look out over the surrounding parkland or into the central College garden. All bedrooms are fully furnished with a single bed, desk and wardrobe. All rooms are centrally heated and each has a telephone and internet access.

Bathrooms are evenly dispersed through the College. All are unisex and shared.

Your linen is provided and is washed on a weekly basis. There are free

washing machines as well as dryers and drying rooms.

The College has everything you need to keep you fit and entertained. You’ll have full access to TV and Foxtel rooms, as well as common and games rooms.

The Junior Common Room (JCR) is open to all residents of the College and is often the centre of student life at Whitley. The JCR includes table tennis and pool tables as well as a large screen projection TV with plenty of couches to relax on.

The park is right across the road with plenty of space for outdoor sports and the College has a multipurpose court with plenty of equipment. If it is too cold to head outside there is a fitness centre with weight, cardio and boxing gear to keep you active.

Each resident at Whitley has  access to unlimited br oadband t hrough  ethernet connections in their room. There is also free wifi in common areas around the College.

Students have access to the College Library and study areas which includes 24-hour access to the fully fitted computer lab alongside  the Library.

Music Rooms

The college has three music rooms available for playing musical instruments, whether for music practice or for relaxation. There is also a grand piano in the College Chapel for practice or reflection.

Food is such an important part of College life!

Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are served each day in the dining room and there are kitchen facilities if you need them.

Lunch includes a sandwich and salad bar as well as a number of hot options.

The College’s chefs can cater to all special dietary requirements and packed lunches and late meals can be arranged.

Twice a week a more formal dinner is held where academic gowns are worn and public announcements are made. These dinners are called 'Hall' and are a vital part of the community life of the College.

You can walk to the University campus or the tram drops you right outside the front gate.

There is plenty of parking around Whitley College with parking permits are available for around $20 year.
