CALL FOR PAPERS - Postcolonial Theology Network International Conference 2012

Papers and presentations are invited for an international conference to be held at Whitley College, Melbourne, in January 2012, co-hosted by the Melbourne College of Divinity.

The conference, "Story Weaving: Colonial Contexts and Postcolonial Theology" is the third in a series of conferences auspiced by the Postcolonial Theology Network's "Divinity after Empire" project. The most recent in the series took place at the United Theological College in Bangalore, India in 2010 and the next is to be held at St Paul's University, limuru, Kenya in 2014.

This conference will have a regional focus on Australiasia and Oceania where, although stories of colonisation are divers, a number of themes have emerged as matters of common concern. An underlying purpose of the conference will be to identify both commonalities and differences in postcolonial experiences.

Contributors are encouraged to facilitate half-hour sessions on a broad range of topics:

1. The Bible and the human rights tradition

2. Secularity and governance in postcolonial contexts

3. The ‘doctrine of discovery’ in legal history

4. Postcolonial and Indigenous dimensions of contextual theology

5. Cultural contexts of health and healing

6. Colonial, Indigenous and postcolonial economies

7. Inter-religious dialogue and reconciliation as postcolonial practices

8. Ecological theology in postcolonial perspective.

Please submit abstracts of proposed papers or presentations to the contact persons below by 11th May, 2011, and the program will be finalized by 1 June.
