Unit Summary
In an increasingly diverse world, we often encounter people with worldviews and perspectives that are new to us. One of the cultural and religious shifts in the Australian context is the growth of Buddhism, which is an important religion in the Asian region. Understanding Buddhism and the various beliefs held by Buddhists can facilitate meaningful engagement, whether it be personally, in a work or ministry context, or in daily life encounters.

This intensive seeks to encourage being a good neighbour, by promoting understanding of:

  • The life of Buddha Siddhartha Gautama
  • The basic tenets of Buddhism
  • Various Buddhist traditions
  • The spiritual world of Buddhists
  • Buddhism’s historical and social development
  • Barriers and bridges that can inhibit or facilitate understanding
  • Contextual approaches for positive interaction with Buddhists
